ENTERTAINMENT on top of ENTERTAINMENT

Saturday, July 02, 2011Last night around 11:00, Niki called and asked if we wanted to go to the Hale Centre Theatre in WVC today at 12:30. Her neighbor friend asked her if she wanted them since she couldn’t. There were four of them. Judy called Judy Pavia and asked if she and Len would like to go with us. There were four tickets.Len drove and we had a good visit each way.We saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the musical version.I think it is/was the most enjoyable performance I have ever seen. It was just hilarious and had a lot of twists and turns and a surprise ending. I think it would be fun to see again and see if I missed any of the innuendos. They were coming a mile a minute.Following is Judy’s facebook entry from a couple of nights ago.Extreme Makeover Team comes to SLCby Judy Dean Jepson on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 12:21amGreat night - we just attended a fundraiser for Jonah Gomez that included entertainment from David Osmond, Thurel Bailey, Alex Boye, and comedian Jason Hewlett (a mission companion of Niki's husband, Greg). Very talented men. We had VIP tickets and front row seats. Jonah's mom, Jessica Kasparian Gomez, grew up with my kids. Jonah has 2 very rare blood disorders that require regular transfusions and extensive care with high medical expenses. They were surprised last Thursday, along with Jonah's sister, Ellie, by Ty Pennington and the "Extreme Makeover" team. The were whisked off to Disneyland while the community of professionals and volunteers of more than 1,300 have rushed to build a new home in the Daybreak community southwest of Salt Lake City. Can't wait for them to come home Wednesday afternoon and for everyone to shout "Move that bus!"

NOTHING TO SAY and saying it anyway

Wednesday, October 27, 2010
I woke up this morning at 9:38. I don't know why. I didn't take any funny pills last night.
I woke up to a skiff of snow; the first of the season.
Later I got new brakes and one new rotor on the Camry at the tune of $315.00.
What a day.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008
I flew in this afternoon from Phoenix.
I flew down there yesterday morning because I needed to take a test for the defensive driving course I took online a few days before.
I have a gut feeling, I didn’t pass. Oh well.
Niki and Alexa picked me up at the airport. Niki was hungry so after driving to Anthem, east of their place, we had lunch at Big Daddy’s, not far from their house. Niki had Buffalo wings, Alexa that chicken strips and I ate a chicken sandwich. It was pretty good.
Alexa mostly ate French fries.
She was a little standoffish when I first got in the car but it wasn’t long before she warmed up in a major way.
Interestingly enough, when they went to Disneyland a week or so ago with Chazens, she wouldn’t go to any of them the whole time they were there. It took maybe a half hour with me.
I am flattered of course.
I do tend to get down to the kids level, at least for openers; at least until they have warmed up to me. I will even get down on my hands and knees or my belly if I have to for openers.
Later, after he got off work, Greg met us at My Big Fat Greek Restaurant for dinner.
Greg and I each had a gyro, Alexa had macaroni and cheese. I don’t remember what Niki ate.
It was pretty good though I have had better gyros.
This morning Greg dropped me off at the airport on his way to the office.
Friday March 14
Monday, Jim called and said he was flying to Anchorage to measure a Hotel for drapes and asked if I wanted to go along. I said sure and through myself together for a flight at seven o’clock that evening.
We arrived in Anchorage around 1:00 in the morning, got Jim’s checked bag from the carousel, picked up a little white Dodge Caliber from Thrifty Rent-a-car and drove to the Fairfield Inn by Marriott only a couple of miles from the airport where we checked into room 233 and crashed.
We didn’t get going until later in the morning the next day though early enough for the free breakfast that came with the room and ends at 10:30.
I drove Jim to the Embassy Suites, dropped him off and drove downtown to see the city.
I parked in the parking structure kitty-corner from the 5th Street Mall and took the sky bridge to the third floor of the mall.
The Mall isn’t very large. It has a J.C. Penny at on end and three floors of smaller shops including a Radio Shack and The Gap. There are a number of shops selling local wares and the usual smaller clothing stores, pedicure shops etc.
The fourth floor is the food court with thirteen venders. I got fish and chips at a local brand shop.
Around 2:30 I picked up Jim and we went to a Mexican place nearby for lunch.
After he was finished for the day we parked on 4th or 3rd Street (?) and walked around the waterfront area and in and out of some shops including the Ulu factory; or did I do that one on my own?
Neither of us was hungry so we went to the hotel, I swam a little. Jim worked on his computer then I went to bed and have no idea what Jim did after that. We went south a ways on the New Seward Highway until we saw the steeple for the Anchorage Temple. We got off the freeway and made our way to the temple and took pictures.
They are building a new chapel in the same parking lot.
The next day we slept in since it didn’t get light until 10 or so.
We did the hotel breakfast again and went back to the room to get ready for the day.
As I was standing at the window in our room I saw a moose in the parking lot of the Motel 6 next door and called Jim to “come” look. I took several pictures and a video of it.
After dropping Jim off at work, I drove to North-East to Eagle River and drove the main road for quite a ways then got back on the freeway and drove on up to Palmer, Alaska where one on Judy’s college roommates is from. It is approximately forty miles from downtown Anchorage.
Palmer is a cute town; rather rustic from what I saw.
When I got back to Anchorage I parked in the parking structure at the Mall again and walk around town, in and out of shops and back in the mall. I was getting week and lightheaded; i.e. needed to increase my blood sugar so I bought an orange juice then at a taco in the food court.
Jim called and said he was finished with his job so I picked him up and we drove down the New Seward Highway which becomes the Seward Highway which goes south along the east side of the Cook Inlet and looked at the sights. It was too early in the season for any whale watching. There were ice sheets everywhere in the Cook Inlet and frozen waterfalls etc on the east side of the road. Generally the mountains came down right to the road in other words right to the inlet.
We drove quite a ways, all the way to Portage before we turned around. I had considered driving all the way to Seward but Jim talked me out of it. It was quite a distance farther. We drove about 45 miles and most of it was not freeway.
We would both like to go back in the summer albeit it is about impossible to fly standby since it is such a popular destination even though there are a lot more flight going there than in the off season. Delta has only one flight a day now and even this time of year some standby passengers, especially Buddy Pass people can’t get on.

When we got back to town we ate at an Asian buffet then looked around the Sportsman’s Warehouse. From Sportsman’s Warehouse we went to Borders where I took a nap in front of the fireplace while Jim browsed for an hour or two; until the store closed at 9:30. (?) I was rather groggy from the long day.
We still had time to kill before our 1:00 a.m. flight so we spent some time in Wal-Mart then we headed off for the airport.
Jim dropped me off at the old terminal which Delta flies out of then he went to the new terminal and turned in the car.
We got one of the last available seats coming home.
Our flight arrived in Salt Lake at 1:30.
Diane picked us up after dropping Austin and Molly off at school and we drove to their house where I had left my car.
I had an enjoyable trip but came home dead tired and crashed. I even slept in this morning before heading to the pool for my hour jog.
The last twenty minutes of my jogging in the pool I really pushed it hard and it seemed easy.
I am defiantly getting into better shape an am 244.4 pounds which is twenty-one pounds down from my highest weight.
